Archaeology

In Haderslev’s large archaeological museum you have the chance of experiencing some of the most impressive archaeological finds discovered in the soil of Southern Jutland – e.g. Denmark’s oldest grave, a magnificent arms cache from Ejsbøl Bog and fragments from Hansborg Castle dating from the mid-1500s.

The large museum replaced an older museum from 1914. At that time an open-air museum was built on the site comprising historic farms and buildings from Southern Jutland, among them a rare post mill.

Discover the fascination of prehistoric Southern Jutland, the history of the market town of Haderslev and look inside the historic houses at the museum. Museum Sønderjylland is in charge of archaeology throughout Southern Jutland, and you will often find the newest archaeological discoveries displayed at the museum.
