Cultural History Tønder

Cultural History Tønder occupies the older part of the building complex featuring, for example, the gate house of the former castle, Tønderhus, complete with winding stairs and prison cells. The castle was demolished in 1750, but its perimeter is still marked by the beech hedge in the park behind the museum.

Become familiar with the craft traditions and the riches ensuing from Tønder’s location as a port and market town at the Wadden Sea with eminent examples of the high-quality handicrafts that characterise this area: lace, silver, furniture and the Dutch tiles and tin-glazed earthenware.

You can also view changing exhibitions that explore cultural-historical themes reaching all the way into the present and afterwards find your way to the museum café to enjoy the tempting delights on offer that day.
